Old carpets.

ECONYL® regenerated nylon is made using waste material like old carpets. With the creation of two carpet recycling facilities in the US, Aquafil is closing the loop in carpet manufacturing by disassembling old carpets to recover the nylon for new flooring and other application, infinitely.

The Hand-knotted Rug.

The design of this virtual carpet is inspired by the pattern invented by designer Isobel Morris for the first handknotted rug, made with ECONYL® regenerated nylon, by Sarawagi Rugs. The real rug was presented this year at Domotex in Hannover, Germany.

2019 NeoCon Plaza.

In 2019 the entire footprint of NeoCon Plaza featured carpets made with ECONYL® regenerated nylon. Also, the tiles were designed and supplied by Interface and made with ECONYL® yarn. The NeoCon Plaza was designed by Gensler Chicago and brought to life in collaboration with Forward Fruit Branded Environments.

Design for circular economy.

How can we design truly sustainable spaces and specify materials in which the entire lifecycle has been considered? In this episode of NeoConversations, we are asking, “What is the circular economy and what role do architects and designers play in it?”

Fishing nets.

ECONYL® regenerated nylon is made using waste material like fishing nets from the fish farming industry and ghost nets recovered from the seas. These fishing nets together with other waste materials are transformed into ECONYL® nylon for a variety of applications.

In these days, the idea of pandemics as portals has captured the imagination of many. We find ourselves in-between two worlds and our experiences, interactions, priorities and the systems we operate in will probably be changed by this. How this change will take place will depend on us and our actions. We believe designers have a great role in future changes on the other side of the portal. They can make a product that lasts forever — “If you want something to last, make it as lovable as a Labrador,” wrote playful architect Lance Hosey. They also influence a product’s environmental impact by choosing the materials and designing the product itself — “over 80 percent of a product’s environmental impact is decided upon in the design stage.” And they can influence behaviors and habits in numerous ways. At Aquafil, we strongly believe in the power of design and we collaborate everyday with our customers and designers to create better products made with sustainable ingredients like our ECONYL® nylon. This is why, for this year, we imagined a virtual NeoCon Plaza space like a portal to the new world. How the other side will look like depends on us.
